How We Work

At AVimmerse, our work begins with interpretation, context, and people, not technology.

We collaborate with universities, museums, heritage organisations, and public bodies to explore whether digital approaches are appropriate, useful, and sustainable, before anything is built.

This page outlines how we typically work with partners, from early thinking through to delivery, evaluation, and long-term use.

Interpretation Before Technology

We do not start with tools, platforms, or formats.

We start by understanding the story, the place, the audience, and the purpose of the work. In many cases, this leads to digital outcomes. In others, it leads to non-digital or hybrid approaches.

Our role is to help partners make informed decisions about interpretation, not to push a particular technology.

Listening, Research, and Context

Early stages of our work often involve listening, desk research, site visits, and conversations with stakeholders, educators, curators, or communities.

This phase helps establish:

  • Historical, cultural, or institutional context.

  • Learning or engagement goals.

  • Constraints around access, ethics, or resources.

  • What success would meaningfully look like.

This groundwork ensures any subsequent digital work is grounded, relevant, and defensible.

PROCESS

Pilots Before Platforms

Where digital approaches are appropriate, we strongly favour small-scale pilots over large, speculative builds.

Pilots allow ideas to be tested, refined, and evaluated before committing to long-term platforms or infrastructure.

This approach reduces risk, supports learning, and helps organisations make confident decisions about next steps.

Collaboration, Not Outsourcing

We work collaboratively with in-house teams, researchers, educators, and partners, rather than operating as a closed, external supplier.

This often includes:

  • Co-design workshops.

  • Knowledge-sharing and skills transfer.

  • Documentation and handover.

  • Supporting teams to build confidence in digital decision-making.

Our aim is to leave organisations better equipped, not dependent.

Ethics, Access, and Longevity

Digital interpretation raises important questions around access, representation, maintenance, and long-term sustainability.

We actively consider:

  • Who digital work includes and excludes.

  • How content will be maintained over time.

  • Whether an experience can realistically be supported beyond its launch.

These considerations shape our recommendations as much as creative ambition does.

Delivery and Evaluation

When projects move into delivery, we combine clear project management with flexible creative practice.

Where appropriate, we support evaluation and reflection, helping partners understand what worked, what didn’t, and how learning can inform future activity.

This reflective approach is especially valuable for funded projects, research contexts, and public-facing programmes.

Who This Approach Is For

This way of working is particularly well suited to organisations that value thoughtful interpretation, collaboration, and long-term impact, including:

  • Schools and research groups.

  • Universities.

  • Museums and heritage organisations.

  • Councils and civic bodies.

  • Cultural and educational programmes.

We also apply this approach within formal teaching and learning contexts, from schools and colleges to higher education.

It may be less appropriate for projects seeking rapid, tool-led deployment without contextual exploration.

Ready to Explore a Project?

If you’re considering a digital interpretation project, pilot, or exploratory phase and would like to talk things through, we’re always happy to start with a conversation.

These conversations focus on context, thinking, and fit, not selling solutions.
